DP Ruto Saves Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi From Suspension

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday saved Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi from suspension following a motion that had been tabled at the assembly.

It is revealed that a meeting was held in the speaker’s office on Tuesday after the DP read the riot act to Majority leader Abdi Guyo.

Reports indicate that the DP went through the riot act which was used by the Jubilee leaders during the impeachment session.

Additionally, a source close to the Star noted that the DP told off Jubilee members asserting that the party has too many wars to fight and can therefore not be distracted by the assembly feuds.

Speaking from his office in Karen, Ruto warned the assembly members against tarnishing the party's name.

He further divulged that a team will be set up to meet Elachi and County Assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele, who was also suspended, for arbitration.

Waithaka MCA Anthony Karanja, who drafted the motion that sought the impeachment of the speaker, had 43 ward representatives signing it.

According to the legislator, the speaker violated the constitution, undermined the authority of the County Assembly Service Board and has constantly abused her office.

However, MCA Karanja revealed that he would follow the right procedure and his move will not be gagged.

County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi was on Monday suspended from her office at the House over graft claims.

Speaker Elachi and Mr Ngwele were asked to step aside by the Nairobi County Assembly Service Board following a near fist fight over multi-million tenders.
