Kisumu-Kakamega Highway Blocked by Rowdy Protestors [VIDEO]

Traffic was interrupted on Saturday along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway after boda boda and matatu operators clashed in Kisumu.

Reports divulged that trouble begun on Friday night after boda boda riders burnt down a matatu alleging that the driver had knocked down one of their colleagues.

The situation escalated on Saturday morning when matatu operators retaliated and burned down several motorcycles.

Kisumu Central OCPD Meshack Kiptum told the press they were yet to confirm the number of people who were injured during the fracas.

The OCPD maintained that his team was investigating the incident and would arrest those suspected to be responsible for the chaos.

"We are still meeting leaders of both the matatu and boda boda operators to verify the cause of the problem," Kiptum stated.

At the moment, the security team is at a meeting with boda boda leaders before heading to talks with the matatu sector leadership.

“They were protesting that it is not right for the boda-boda operators to burn a matatu because of a side mirror that cost Sh150,” said a resident.

Residents pleaded with the County Government and the National Government administration to help foster good working relationships between the town service operators, taxi and the boda-boda operators.

They asked the county government to especially bring in the boda-boda riders who are easily provoked because they feel like other road users look down on them.
