Officers Busted Smuggling Alcohol From Uganda in Police Vehicle

Two AP officers working in Mumias, Kakamega were arrested alongside a trader after they were found ferrying illicit alcohol using a police vehicle.

Harison Kwambai, his colleague Meshack Musembi and civilian Tabitha Ngera were apprehended after members of the public reported that the vehicle was carrying suspicious goods.

Mumias police boss Peter Kattam told Citizen that the alcohol was believed to have been sneaked in from Uganda.

"It's very unfortunate that officers who are supposed to fight trafficking of outlawed alcohol are abetting traders to transport the brew from the neighbouring country," he regretted.

Mumias Director of Criminal Investigations Robert Mureithi stated that the 600 sachets nabbed were estimated to be worth at least Ksh 200,000.

On January 9, four armed suspects masquerading as traffic police officers were arrested after they hijacked a sugar truck.

The lorry was transporting 200 bags of sugar from Sukari Industries in Ndhiwa sub-county to a supermarket in Kisii town.

The impostors blocked the lorry and ordered driver Brian Owade to stop near Nyachenge trading centre, claiming they wanted to inspect the vehicle.

In another separate incidence, Trans Nzoia nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA), Phyllis Njeri Mbogwa, was arrested on January 6 for drunk driving, while her six-month-old baby sat at the back seat of her saloon car.

According to reports, the nominated MCA was apprehended at around 7pm along the Kitale – Eldoret Road, at Kwa Muthoni within Trans Nzoia County.
