Survivor Narrates Ordeal During Dusit D2 Riverside Attack

A survivor of the Dusit D2 attacked on Tuesday evening came forward to narrate the ordeal during the horrific attack at the hotel

Talking to Citizen TV, he revealed that they heard a loud blast and as they raced for the exit, they heard gunshots and were forced to return into the hotel.

"Tulisikia kwanza mlipuko, watu wakajaribu kutoweka, Kidogo kidogo watu wakaskia risasi wakarudi ndani, (We heard a blast, people tried to disappear, shortly, people heard gunshots and were forced to run back inside)," he stated.

The survivor, a former journalist who works as a hotelier adjacent to Dusit D2, further claimed that people were still trapped at the building almost three hours since the ordeal started.

He, however, declined to divulge further owing to the safety of all those still holed up in the hotel probably with terrorists themselves.

"The police are evacuating people one at a time, but at the moment it would not be fair for me who just got out to try and paint a picture of where anyone else would be or what the situation could be because they have family out there," he continued.

He further urged the family to stop calling the victims still in the building since it is interfering with the psychological well being.

"If you are not directly related to any member so that their family and the police can reach them...that ringing is really disruptive," Githaiga stated.

Both USA and State House responded to the attack.

In a statement on social media, the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs warned its citizens in the area to exercise caution whereas State House cautioned Kenyans against sharing the videos, messages and images from the scene.
