Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, on Thursday sent out an alert to all the landlords within the city to brace themselves for an impending review.
The governor was speaking at Kabiro area in Kawangware where he had gone to console victims of a recent tragic fire.
Sonko went on to order the inspection and review of all building approval permits handed out within the county.
He made it clear that any building that would be flagged as having been constructed without relevant approval from City Hall would be demolished immediately.
“We will take stern action against those who construct sub-standard houses in Nairobi. Most of those houses end up causing tragedies leading to loss of lives and property," Sonko asserted.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to stem out the construction of houses without proper approval by the city government, in order to avoid future disasters.
"My administration will take measures to prevent such tragedies like fire outbreaks caused by poor workmanship,” he divulged.
Sonko went on to donate foodstuffs and household items to the victims of the recent tragic fire that left one infant dead, pledging to cater for the funeral expenses of the deceased.
He further assured the thousands of residents living in the deplorable conditions of the slums that he was pushing to ensure that the county's affordable housing project stayed on track, as it would benefit most of the slum dwellers.
"In addition, we will ensure President Kenyatta’s affordable housing project is fully implemented in Nairobi,” Sonko remarked.
