Wanted Criminal Mysteriously Dies After Drinking Chang'aa

Police in Migori County are investigating the death of a wanted criminal who died after consuming illicit brew, Citizen Digital reported on Monday, September 23

The body of the 40-year-old man identified as Onamu Ochago was found lying in a tree plantation according to Migori Police Commander Joseph Nthenge.

Nthenge revealed that the late Ochago had been drinking for hours at the Chang'aa drinking den in Wouth Ogik, Suna East sub-county.

He added that eyewitnesses had seen him stagger out of the den before he was later found dead. Nthenge reported that the body had no visible injuries.

Area chief Philip Kisiagro disclosed that Ochago was one of the notorious criminals who were wanted by the police for cattle rustling.

He had already received a summon from the security officers in relation to the theft of two cows that happened last week.

The body was moved to Migori Level Four hospital where an autopsy would be done to determine what killed the wanted criminal.

Cattle rustling is rampant in the area with a report by The Standard in May 2018 mentioning a similar case in Suna West sub-county where a couple was shot by cattle rustlers.

The cattle rustlers shot Boniface Kiche and Beatrice in their home. Boniface died on the spot while her wife succumbed to the gunshots while undergoing treatment.

Kuria West OCPD Benson Mukambi received the report about the attack and confirmed that they had pursued the criminals and shot one.

Masaba MCA Abedi Maroa commenting on the issue urged the police to step in terming cattle rustling as an outdated criminal activity.

"Cattle rustling is an outdated thing. We are against it and we are asking the police to step up what they are doing," Maroa reiterated.
