WhatsApp Messages Link Njenga Karume's Grandson  to Seized Drugs

The DCI on Tuesday, September 24, announced that they were investigating the link between James Njenga Kihato, the grandson to former defence minister Njenga Karume, and a drug consignment they had seized.

The drugs believed to have been shipped from the US were nabbed on Monday, September 23 and arrested  Monica Wanda Anyango, 24 an employee of the national carrier, Kenya Airways arrested.

Vicky Awiti who was in the company of Anyango was also arrested after detectives layed ambush at the Barclays Sports Club at 8.40 p.m.

Detectives from the Anti- Narcotics Unit (ANU) revealed that after the arrest the suspects immediately called Kihato.

Further investigations revealed that earlier, the suspects and Kihato had been communicating via WhatsApp.

“Immediately the suspects were arrested, they called Kihato and the call data and Whatsapp communication indicated that the two suspects had earlier been in communication with Kihato,” stated one of the detectives investigating the matter.

They further disclosed that the suspected drugs had been mailed to the country from Los Angeles with the sender indicated as Marcus White of Catalina Street, Los Angeles.

The consignee was indicated as Jared Amolo of P.O Box 46733-00100 Nairobi. However, investigations showed that Amolo never collected the box from the General Post Office (GPO) Nairobi but was instead collected by an employee of the post office.

Detectives noted that they were trying to establish who collected the parcel and the identity of the consignee plus the individual who delivered the parcels to the suspects.

In 2016 Kihato together with Lawrence Muketo Ngula and Joseph Mutua Kimeu were arrested in Lavington Nairobi during a cocaine and marijuana trafficking investigation.

According to the police, Kihato had been importing narcotics such as Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) into the country. LSD is highly addictive and common among youths in Nairobi.
