Fire engulfed a section of Lenana School along Ngong' Road in Nairobi on Monday, March 1.

The fire reportedly began at Tom Mboya House, a dormitory housing hundreds of students.

A teacher at the school who spoke to Kenyans.co.kehowever, asserted that the students were not harmed.

"The students are safe. We are doing the roll-call right now," he asserted.

The Kenya Red Cross and firefighters from Nairobi County responded quickly to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire remained unclear by the time of publication.

It however, left a lot of the students' belongings including boxes, mattresses and clothes destroyed.

The teacher revealed that he had received numerous calls from panicked parents soon after reports of the fire began spreading on social media.

"They should not be so worried, the fire is contained," he stated.

The news is sure to spark a debate on safety in public schools, coming three weeks after another fire engulfed a section of Upper Hill School in Nairobi.

A dormitory at the school was razed down by the fire which began at around 7 pm on Wednesday, February 5.

The response by firefighters from Nairobi County was swift and the fire was contained within an hour of their arrival with no serious injuries reported.

The cause of the Upper Hill fire remained unclear as well.
