A house tour by Joan Kubai of their family mansion in Runda, Nairobi went viral on Monday, July 6, and opened a floodgate of reactions.

Among them was a large section of Kenyans making comparisons between the stunning mansion seen in the video and their own bedsitters and rental apartments.

The video shared by Kubai, a social media user said to be the daughter of a prominent figure on Sunday, July 5, offered a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Kenya's rich, with several rooms, an indoor lift and swimming pool among features depicted.

It was widely circulated on platforms including WhatsApp and Twitter, and even inspired an online petition by one Kenyan who sought 100 signatures in support of him moving in with the Kubais.

"Joan can get lost on her way to the main kitchen for a snack meanwhile in the bedsitter when you step out of bed in the morning you can slip on your face towel and crash into the neighbour's door," joked one Mack Shem.

"I watched Joan Kubai's video of the mansion only to wake up in my bedsitter looking at a knife in the basin and a sufuria on top of my radio," one Pablo Clavers shared.

"I think my bedsitter can fit into Joan's house five or six times," observed a shocked Jonte.

The tour started with Kubai showcasing her room, before going on to her siblings' room and showing the lighting fixtures, bathrooms and walk-in closets.

She then showed the manicured backyard that features life-size sculptures of animals including lions and a swimming pool.

Kubai went on to show the gazebo, balcony and three different living rooms in addition to various other sections of the house.

She later took to Twitter to express her surprise after finding herself as one of the top trends in the country on the morning of July 6

"You guys should stop. You all are killing me," she remarked.

Some considered the video to be part of the global 'Rich Check' challenge that has taken platforms such as Tik Tok and Instagram by storm in recent weeks.

The challenge involves users flaunting various valuable possessions including cars, houses and large sums of cash.
