Gabriele Hannah van Straten, the sister to slain businessman Tob Cohen, now claims that she has spent Ksh22 million in search of her brother's killers.
Appearing at the High Court during the hearing of the case concerning the execution of her brother's will, Van Straten explained her frustration in the quest to find justice for Cohen.
She asked Justice Murungi Thande to determine the wealth distribution case, which would at least give her family a bit of closure on the matter.
“So far, the family has spent over Ksh22 million (Euro180,000) in getting justice done for our deceased brother,” she disclosed to the court.
Van Straten added that she had travelled to and from the Netherlands to follow up on the investigations on his death. She further defended herself from accusations that her trips to Kenya were because of her interests in her brother's wealth.
On responding to questions on why she staged a no-show at Cohen's funeral, she disclosed that she had another family engagement in Holland.
"I had to fly back home to attend to my son’s wedding. I had seen my brother’s body. Justice had begun to be done,” she explained.
While in court, she further poked holes at the will presented by Cohen's wife, Sarah Wairimu, stating that the Will had been fabricated. Straten claimed that the tycoon already has another will which he left with her.
"My wealthy brother had developed real estate and had business ventures. He did not mention Ms Wairimu as one of the beneficiaries of his estate in his Will," she told Justice Thande.
Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, the Dutch citizen asked the court to allow her to compare the Will left behind and the one presented by his widow Wairimu - which she claimed was forged.
Consequently, the judge directed the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti to present the original Will before the court.
Cohen’s body was found in a septic tank in his compound three years ago with his wife and and Peter Karanja being charged with his murder.
