Outgoing Kieni Member of Parliament, Kanini Kega, has accused the people of Mount Kenya of voting out honest leaders and replacing them with the contrary.

Kega, while insinuating that the election was not free and fair, noted that it was only a matter of time before the people of Mount Kenya knew the truth and what exactly transpired in the polls.

The seasoned lawmaker was disappointed in the region for not heeding his advice to vote for politicians allied to the Azimio La Umoja coalition.

"You were wrong for voting out honest leaders. Lies are sweet, that is why you voted in leaders who lied to you. A time will come and you will recall the truth," Kega stated.

Speaking to Inooro TV at KICC on Saturday, August 13, after a meeting of newly elected Azimio leaders, he expressed confidence that former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, would be declared the presidential vote winner.

In addition, Kega expressed gratitude to the people of Mount Kenya who voted for Raila Odinga. He assured them that they made the right choice.

He also noted that he had traversed the nation campaigning for Raila persuading voters that the former Prime Minister was the people's choice. He opined that the former Premier would win the presidential vote in round one by hitting the constitutional threshold of 50 per cent plus one vote.

"I want to thank those who voted for Raila Odinga. In my region, about 11,000 voters cast their votes for the party leader."

He also echoed re-elected Suna East MP Junet Mohamed's sentiments that Azimio had more newly-elected leaders compared to Kenya Kwanza.

Kanini Kega, who was defeated in his re-election bid - stated that he was contented with the outcome of the elections. He conceded defeat before the IEBC officially declared the winner.

However, he dismissed claims that he was defeated by more than 20,000 votes, pointing an accusing finger at election irregularities he claimed led to his defeat.

"In a polling station in the constituency, our agent nabbed a voter with at least 5 marked ballot papers for the opponent. The matter was reported and will be taken to court," Kega claimed.

Kega of the Jubilee party lost to Njoroge Wainaina of UDA who amassed 43,668 votes while the incumbent got 20,403 votes.
