For Kelvin Mutwiwa, working as the Head of Communications for Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has been a journey of confidence and resilience as he strives to execute the enormous mandate despite his young age.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, March 10, the University of Nairobi graduate narrated his eight-year experience brushing shoulders with the Machakos Governor and formerly an administrative officer in the national government.

His journey as Wavinya’s aide started way back in 2015 when he was still a student at the University of Nairobi, School of Journalism.

Ndeti, who was at the time a former MP of Kathiani Constituency had hired Mutwiwa to assist her in managing her social media platforms.

As a student, the new assignment forced him to adapt to a new life of balancing studies and the busy diary of tagging along in Wavinya's activities.

He recalled his first day's experience going home, tired, hungry, exhausted, and without money but still woke up the following day to join the caravan.

However, he eventually adapted to the environment and won the governor’s trust to the point he was elevated to the position of the Head of Comms.

As regards his role in the current status of his boss, Mutwiwa acknowledges the magnitude of his task of ensuring that her boss’ image is protected from malignment.

He noted that the governor has been often targeted by malicious campaigns with the intention of labelling her as not eloquent and uneducated.

He explained one particular moment when he was forced to apologise after posting a photo of the Machakos Governor in what appeared to be an oversized outfit.

Mutwiwa noted that he was forced to personally apologise to the Governor after the photo went viral and later sparked an outrage on social media users criticising her for the outfit.

“Media has been crucial in shaping the personality of Wavinya Ndeti. I am privileged to have been heading this department for eight years now. My boss has occasionally been bashed by Media and cyber bullies as not sharp and eloquent.

"It was the talk of town for a month. I personally apologize for exposing my boss. She's a good dressers. She's Smart knows how to select her outfits," he narrated.

When asked about Wavinya's personality when out of the limelight, Mutwiwa describes her as a "perfectionist" and strict leader who is resolute in making her endeavours a success.

However, the comms director notes that Governor Wavinya has a soft spot for people and that she likes interacting with members of her society.

According to Mutwiwa, Governor Wavinya regularly attends weddings, church services and other ceremonies in her free time.

“Wavinya Ndeti' is a perfectionist and wants her things done as she wants. When she focuses on something, she will not stop until it's done to her satisfaction. She's a go-getter and a Courageous Woman.”
