Motorists driving along Uhuru Highway, Mombasa Road were urged to brace for a six-hour traffic disruption.

In a statement dated Saturday, May 27, motorists accessing Nyayo Stadium, Bellevue, General Motors, and Sameer Business Park were asked to seek an alternative route.

The annual St John Ambulance Save a Life Walkathon 2023 necessitated the disruption.

"Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid any inconveniences. Traffic police will be available at the designated route to enable smooth flow of traffic," read part of the statement.

The race was expected to begin at 6 am to 12 pm on Saturday, May 27, from the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

All participants will start at KICC, up to Nyayo Stadium Roundabout, and back to KICC. The 10 kilometres race will start at KICC to Bellevue South C, and back to KICC. The 21-kilometre race will start at KICC, go to Mombasa Road Sameer/GM u-turn, and back to KICC.

The race aims to raise funds to help needy patients without emergency medical care.

Motorists were advised to drive cautiously and coordinate with traffic marshals to avoid disrupting the event or creating a snarl-up.

On Friday, May 19, Gertrude Hospital Foundation also organised a similar race from Uhuru Gardens to create cancer awareness.

"Thousands of children are battling cancer in this country each year. For many of them, diagnosis and treatment are out of reach," Gertrude's Children's Hospital CEO Robert Nyarango stated.
