Bensouda Ordered to Apologise for Breaking Taboo

A section of Pokot leaders have demanded an apology from International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, for reportedly linking Former Minister Francis Lotodo to the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence.

While testifying against Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua arap Sang, Witness number 3 is said to have mentioned the Late Lotodo as one of the three key planners of the violence, seven years after his death.

Speaking during a press briefing, the leaders said it was a taboo to speak of the dead, therefore demanded an apology from the Hague-based court. Francis Lotodo died of Cancer in November 2000 while seeking treatment at a clinic in South Africa.

Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing questioned the court's credibility claiming it had proven to be compromised by persons who had fixed the DP and Mr Sang.

“This poses a fundamental question on the ICC case showing that the shoddy work the prosecution undertook...This confirms the fears of many Kenyans that ICC is a kangaroo court that is being used politically to fix the Deputy President,” he said.

The leaders further claimed that the accusation defamed the family and the whole pokot community.

“Kwa niaba ya watu wa pokot tunataka huyo mama aongee na aombee msamaha. Kama yeye ni mtu wa haki, atuombee tumsamehe," - On behalf of the Pokot community, we want that woman to ask for forgiveness. If she is actually a person of the law, she should ask for forgiveness” said Pokot Council of elders chairman John Mwok.
