Bodyguards of ODM MP Withdrawn

Ugunja Member of Parliament (MP) Opiyo Wandayi's office has been closed and his bodyguards withdrawn following his disorderly behavior during the State of the Nation Address on Thursday.

The legislator's parliamentary staff have also reportedly been withdrawn, as a punishment for contravening Standing Orders of the National Assembly.

In a report by the Standard, Speaker Justin Muturi confirmed that the MP would be suspended for the next 11 months and will not even be allowed to access the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) office in his area.

“He will not lose his seat. He will remain an MP. But he will be suspended. He can’t even go to the Constituency Development Fund office,” Muturi stated.

The MP was ejected from Parliament buildings after he became unruly and refused to leave upon being requested by the Speaker, who then ordered Wandayi's forceful removal from the Chamber.

According to House rules, the suspension means that Wandayi will stay away from the confines of the National Assembly until February next year, a period in which he will only earn his basic salary minus all allowances and privileges.
