British Man Petrol Bombed in Kenya

A Kenyan resident of British origin is nursing injuries after he was attacked Saturday night while driving to his home at Bofa farm in Kilifi County.

David Taylor sustained serious burns after attackers hurled a petrol bomb inside his pick-up which immediately caught fire.

The unknown assailants are said to have then escaped on a motorbike, leaving the victim burning inside the vehicle.

Confirming the incident, Kilifi OCPD Alexander Makau said the attackers threw the bomb through the rear windscreen.

“The victim was arriving home at around 9 pm after a snooker game when a stranger threw a petrol bomb at the Nissan pick-up. Although he managed to drive in, he was seriously injured and the cabin and windscreen damaged,” said Makau.

Upon reaching home, Taylor was rushed to Coast General Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit after which he was airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

The police boss indicated that the assault could have been a retaliation since a section of squatters had been protesting against foreigners owning land in the region.

“The attacks took place at a time when we evicted people who had invaded land belonging to a Briton in Kiwandani. We suspect they were revenge attacks,” said Mr Makau.

Elsewhere in Kwale County, a German national was beaten up by security officers after he attempted to disrupt a survey exercise at a disputed piece of land.

Edmond Durr was roughed up and arrested after he confronted and photographed police officers who were overseeing the work.
