Chief Among Those Arrested Countrywide In Fight Against Illicit Liquor

The fight against illicit brew continues countrywide as police continue to crack down on the illegal brew.

Thousand of liters of the alcohol have been destroyed with several people being arrested.

In Murang'a County a chief was arrested after second generation liquor was found in his licensed bar.

Kigumo location Chief Stephen Kihara was arrested on orders of the area County Commissioner, Kula Hache.

The Standard reports that the chief was in the company of local leaders among them Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau as they conducted a crackdown at Kigumo market.

He is said to have left the group, hopping on a motorcycle to go to his bar, allegedly to destroy the booze.

He was nabbed when the legislator raised suspicion over his disappearing act.

Other leaders in the area led residents in impounding and destroying the alcohol.

In Kirinyaga Central Constituency, MP Gachoki Gitari led residents in destroying over 1.5 million liters of illicit alcohol in the area while in Mwea Constituency, area MP Peter Gitau also led residents in pouring of over 2.5 million of the alcohol.

Elsewhere, Citizen Tv reports that ten suspects were Sunday arrested and more than 1,000 litres of illicit brew nabbed after police raided Mororo Village in Madogo division, Tana North Sub-County.

According to The Nation, Police also raided alcohol dens in Isiolo County.

The crackdown comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta declared war on the illicit brew that has left many Kenyans dead.
