CORD Frustrated in Plan Against IEBC

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) on Friday suffered a setback after the High Court barred them from storming Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices.

High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola ordered that the Coalition cuts short its plan to camp at the electoral body offices until a case filed by Jubilee leaders is heard and determined.

Justice Lenaola maintained that the directive would remain in force until May 5 when the defendants listed as Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, as well as their respective parties - ODM, Wiper, and Ford-Kenya - give their responses.

The judge made the pronouncement after five Jubilee Members of Parliament filed a case to prevent the Coalition and its supporters from intimidating the Commission.

The five included Kabete's Ferdinand Waititu, Moses Kuria of Gatundu South, Dennis Waweru of Dagoretti North, Kimani Ichung’wa from Kikuyu and Thika's Alice Ng’ang’a.

MP Kuria went ahead to call upon his supporters to join him in suing Odinga for treason which is punishable by death.

The Opposition had vowed that it would stage peaceful demonstrations every Monday until the electoral body is disbanded or the current Commissioners leave office.

Calls were even made for mass protests against the body in various regions across the country as an expression of displeasure with the working of the Commission.
