Corrupt Government Officers Could Face Death

Members of Parliament from the Jubilee Coalition now want Public Officers who are found guilty of corruption or involvement in drug trafficking to be sentenced for life.

The MPs on Thursday announced the proposal which is contained in an initiative dubbed Boresha Katiba aimed at amending the Constitution through a referendum.

During a Press Conference led by Tiati MP Asman Kamama, the leaders suggested that corruption and drug dealing be categorized as Capital offences.

Under the Kenyan Penal Code, there are five offences punishable by death: Murder, robbery with violence, treason, attempted robbery and administering an oath to commit a Capital offence.

The Boresha Katiba initiative also seeks to increase money allocated to Counties, and also enable Parliament appoint Cabinet Secretaries among other changes.

Kamama was flanked by among other leaders; Gideon Konchella (Kilgoris) and Kabando wa Kabando of Mukurweini.

The new drive seemingly counters the Opposition's Okoa Kenya drive, which among its key highlights also intends to increase funds to the County Governments.

The new suggestions come at a time when the Jubilee Government is grappling with the fight against corruption, with several of it's Cabinet members remaining suspended over graft cases while others are still being mentioned in emerging scandals.
