A teacher at Highridge Secondary School in Parklands, Nairobi, was on Wednesday arraigned in court for allegedly raping a 15-year-old form one girl.
The Biology teacher, Hillary Okeyo, who was arrested on Tuesday after an uproar from the students, was charged with defilement and indecent assault of the minor. Mr Okeyo denied the charges.
The court ordered the accused teacher be remanded until Friday for his bail ruling.
Okeyo is said to have defiled the student last week on Wednesday, inside a pit latrine within the school's compound.
The school's administration is reported to have remained silent on the issue and failed to inform the girl's parents, a move that prompted students to stage a demonstration accusing the school of covering the heinous act.
Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno confirmed the incident that was reported on Monday at 4pm, leading to the arrest of the suspect on Tuesday.
