Ethiopian Soldiers Invade Village And Demand Residents Produce Rebels

More than 30 heavily armed soldiers reportedly infiltrated the Ethiopia- Kenya border and invaded Lataka village in Sololo, Marsabit County on Tuesday morning.

Locals say the foreign soldiers who allegedly harrased them, demanded that they disclose the whereabouts of rebels said to be from the Ethiopian outlawed milita group-  Oromo Liberation Front (OLF).

Reports indicate that the soldiers were heavily armed with hundreds of bullets, AK47 rifles, hand grenade and other weapons.

The soldiers roughed up the locals for a few hours insisting that they had information on where the rebels were hiding.

The incident came just two days after Ethiopia held its national elections and at a time when the Sololo border remained closed due to the polls, The Standard reports.

By the time police officers arrived, the soldiers had long gone.

More than a week ago 50 heavily armed Ethiopian soldiers and police officers are said to have crossed the Kenyan border and taken over a police station.

Although they admitted that the Kenyan government was not aware of their presence, the Ethiopian officers said that they had just gone to inspect the border and a lake.
