Former Deputy Sub County Commissioner Arrested Over Theft of Relief Food

Police have arrested former Garissa deputy sub-county commissioner Dominic Musyoka Kyenza and government stores clerk Abdullahi Sharif Ahmed over allegations of stealing and selling relief food.

The former state official presented himself to EACC offices in Machakos Tuesday, after being on the run since news of his impending arrest.

Ahmed on the other hand was arrested in his Garissa home.

According to The Nation,  regional head of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Mr Abraham Kemboi said that investigations revealed that the two suspects were part of a cartel that used fake names to get relief food.

The food would later be repackaged and sold in areas within Garissa sub county.

The arrests come after Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko gave a directive for the former deputy sub county commissioner to be arrested for the crime, reportedly committed last year.

The Standard quotes a letter by the DPP, “Having perused the inquiry file and considered therein I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain the charges”

Detectives continue investigating the matter. Meanwhile the two suspects are set to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
