Governor Accused of Exhuming Bodies to Build Sh50 Million House

Elgeyo Marakwet residents have moved to the streets in protest over plans to construct a Sh50 Million residence for the County Governor, Alex Tolgos.

The enraged locals opposed the plans by the county to build the luxurious mansion, claiming that the land in use was their ancestral graveyard.

According to residents, the County Government exumed bodies from the cemetry in preparation for the construction.

The project which is underway near Kamariny Stadium was criticized by area leaders stating that there was money already allocated to buy land for the same.

Locals have threatened to move to the courts to stop the construction.

The Governor however dismissed the allegations by the residents citing that the land belonged to the County Government and the project would continue as planned.

“This is a county government property, it does not belong to me and I will only leave in that house as long as I am in office,” said Tolgos.

This comes against the backdrop of a public outcry sparked by Elgeyo Marakwet MCAs' visit to Congo to draw lessons on athletics.
