Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti's Rape Case Suspended

A judge has suspended the case hearing of Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti in which he is accused of allegedly raping a journalist in Nairobi.

This is until the review of the MP's application to stop the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from pursuing prosecution.

Justice Weldon Korir issued the directive today at the Milimani law courts.

Mwiti was charged in April with rape, intimidation and indecent assault.

He was released on Sh100,000 cash bail.

The MP has since maintained his innocence.

In July, he said that there was tampering of evidence in the case, asking the High Court to throw out the case.

The DPP, however, said the claims were an attempt by the MP to delay prosecution.

Mwiti is accused of luring the former journalist to his offices in Westlands, where he allegedly beat and raped her.

The case will be heard on October 12.
