KDF Speaks on Students Joining Al Shabaab

The Kenya Defence Forces has warned of the rising number of students joining Al Shabaab in Somalia.

Speaking on Wednesday during the KDF Day Celebrations at Kahawa Garrison in Nairobi, Chief of Defence Forces, General Samson Mwathethe, asked parents and teachers to help in combating radicalisation of the children.

Mwathethe also expressed that their were high concerns over students being lured by the militia group through social media.

“Our children are exposed to messages loaded with extremist ideologies meant to radicalise their minds,” he said.

The Chief of Defence Forces was presiding over the Celebrations that are held to remember fallen soldiers in the war against the extremist group in Somalia.  Kenyan Soldiers who are now operating under AMISON, have liberated many areas that were previously under the control of Al Shabaab.

It is now four years since KDF launched an offensive dubbed Operation Linda Nchi into Somalia to destroy the terror group and protect the country from their aggression.

The concerns by the Military come a week after a KCPE candidate from one of the high end estates in Nairobi, confessed to the police that he had been recruited by Al Shabaab. The boy who had been attending radicalisation teachings at a house in the neighbourhood, reportedly gave a list of other young recruits bound to be sneaked into Somalia in December.
