Keter Now Summoned Over Waiguru Removal

Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter has been summoned by elders to explain why he wants Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru removed from office.

The elders want Keter, who has already presented a motion in parliament for Ms Waiguru's impeachment, to tell them of his motive in the move that is likely to cause rift in the Jubilee coalition.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, the Nandi elders told the Legislator to stop his defiant attitude and follow the wishes of other leaders in the region who wanted him to drop the bid.

“The MP needs to appear before the council at an urgent crisis meeting on Saturday (tomorrow) to explain why he is going against the grain of the region’s leadership by fronting the impeachment motion against the Devolution Cabinet Secretary,” said one of the elders.

The elders further warned that such a move would work against the MP come 2017 elections.

Keter is reported to have collected signatures from about 92 lawmakers supporting the motion, with some members from the ruling coalition likely to have joined the cause.

In selected press conferences, some United Republican Party MPs also called for the resignation of CS Waiguru due to corruption allegations in her Ministry.

The Opposition has also been mounting pressure on Waiguru, asking her to step aside to allow for investigations into the loss of Sh791 Million in the National Youth Service.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been accused, by different factions, of favouring the embattled CS since other Cabinet members mentioned in graft scandals were suspended.
