Matiang'i Now Cracks the Whip on Politicians

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has issued a stern warning to politicians seeking public offices in the 2017 General Election, who are in possession of dubious academic certificates.

Matiang'i stated that the Ministry will not clear anyone with questionable papers hence block them from the elections.

He added that the Commission for University Education (CUE) must be convinced that certificates presented are genuine and from a recognised university before giving approval.

"Elections are up and everyone is rushing to get papers. This time CUE's voice must be heard. Those who present papers from unrecognised universities will be turned away,” Matiang'i stated.

"If you turn up with a degree that we do not know, we shall refuse it so that you do not take up public office," the Education CS added.

The announcement by Matiang'i comes at a time when Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has challenged the credibility of Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu's degree, allegedly obtained from India's Punjab University.

Kabogo filed a lawsuit claiming that he had evidence to demonstrate that Waititu's education background was not legit and had infringed the Constitution to be elected into office

Matiang'i has been on the ground making radical changes in the Education sector, in a bid to clean it up.

On Thursday, the CS dissolved the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Board following massive irregularities witnessed in the 2015 national examinations.
