Midwives Acclaimed For Increased Skilled Birth Rate

The Nursing Council of Kenya has commended midwives for the increase in number of safe births in the country.

The sentiments were given during this year's celebration of the International Midwives Week at the Kenya Medical Training College in Siaya.

According to the council, the increase in skilled birth rate from 44 to 61 percent is attributed to the antenatal care, labor and postnatal care given by midwives.

The council chair Evelyn Rotich also noted that the First Lady's Beyond Zero Campaign and free maternal health provision have gone a long way into reducing the mortality rates in Kenya.

She however pointed out the need to address the overwhelming number of patients in hospitals.
