MP Kneels Before Ruto

A picture circulating on social media of Imenti Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mwiti kneeling before Deputy President William Ruto has aroused curiosity among Kenyans.

The incident happened at a fundraiser in Kirigara Girls' Secondary School in Imenti Central, Meru County, when the DP joined leaders and young people at the launch of Youth Empowerment SACCO in the constituency.

In the photo Mwiti appears to be 'begging' DP Ruto for something that is yet to be known.

Mwiti's actions were questioned on social media with many wondering why the legislator was publicly kneeling before Ruto.

Some defined the move as 'idolatry' while others saying it was utter 'Sycophancy at its best'.

Lawyer Gitobu Imanyara captioned the puzzling photo: "Deputy President William Ruto faces crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court and Mwiti Irea the Central Imenti member of parliament on his knees before him, faces rape charges in a Nairobi Court. Both are out on bail".

It was at the same meeting that Meru Governor Peter Munya walked out on the DP Ruto after telling him that he would not be coerced into joining the newly formed Jubilee Party contrary to his will.
