MP Saves Popular Nairobi Restaurant From Dramatic Closure

Drama ensued at a popular Nairobi restaurant after City County Officials stormed the premise threatening to take it over.

County askaris who arrived at Simmers restaurant in a lorry at 10am Thursday, are said to have ordered all employees and clients to leave the premises, Nairobi news reports.

The staff at the venue initially resisted the order but were overpowered by the security men who took over the premise closing it down for about half an hour due to unpaid land rates amounting to Sh1.1 million.

As The Nation reports Kimilili MP Suleiman Murunga, who was at the establishment wrote two cheques amounting to Sh1.1 million to settle the matter that nearly turned ugly.

According to the Rates Task force Chairman John Ntoiti the county government is targeting Sh60 billion in defaulted land rates from properties in Nairobi.
