New Bill To Ban Use of Plastic Bags in The City

Nairobi county government will draft a bill that seeks to ban the use of plastic bags in the city.

This is in a bid to reduce clogging of drainage systems within the town.

Nairobi governor Evans Kidero says that the recent flooding attributed partly to poor drainage systems that have been blocked by plastic bags has necessitated the drafting of the bill.

He said that the constant dumping by city residents of plastics that end up being washed off by rain, blocking drainage systems is of major concern.

Classic 105 reports that the proposal has been presented to some members of the county assembly and has the potential of passing to become law.

The heavy rains witnessed in the country for the past two months has seen flooding in many parts of the country, leaving thousands homeless, millions worth of property destroyed and several people dead.
