New NYS Boss Ordered to Fire Corrupt Persons

Richard Ethan Ndubai has been sworn in as the new Director General of the National Youth Service, taking over from Nelson Githinji who resigned from office in November 2015, following corruption allegations.

In a ceremony that was held on Tuesday in State House Mombasa, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the former Principal Secretary to fire those who may taint the image of NYS further as it had been in the past.

“The service, unfortunately, has engaged itself in issues that are unbecoming of those who are supposed to mentor a new generation,” said the President.

Mr Kenyatta further urged the new NYS boss to revive the stalling youth empowerment programme in two months time, to re-engage young people across the country who had been rendered jobless for months following graft in the Planning ministry.

“So today as we swear you in, I want to clearly state my own personal commitment to restart the empowerment programme within the next two months,” the President told Mr Ndubai.

Mr Ndubai was however sworn in one week after the Government had announced Kibera NYS project manager, Sam Michuki, as the new Director General.

In a statement posted in the Government website mygov.go.ke, Mr Michuki was to take up office after an announcement was issued by Youth and Public Service Principal Secretary Lillian Omollo. The mix up was however not explained during the swearing in ceremony.

Mr Ndubai reportedly holds a Masters degree from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting from the University of Nairobi. He is also set to graduate with a PhD in Performance Contracting, Measurement and Public Service delivery still from UON.
