Nkaissery Issues Firm Message to Addicts

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has assured drug addicts in Kwale - who will successfully reform - that they would be absorbed into the National Youth Service (NYS).

Speaking at the official launch of the crackdown on drugs, the CS urged more than 1,700 drug addicts to turn themselves in for rehabilitation.

He noted that the Government would begin a rehabilitation process, from Tuesday, for drug addicts who largely consist of the youth.

After meeting the addicts, Nkaissery guaranteed them that they would not be targeted by President Uhuru Kenyatta's crackdown.

He firmly stated that drug traffickers would be dealt with accordingly once found.

The meeting was also attended by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett, Kwale County Commissioner Evans Achoki and other officials.

This comes after the President ordered a crackdown on drug barons and their drugs in the Coast last week.

Police officers have been searching through dens for evidence linking to drug barons in the Coast.

Three weeks ago, the Kenya Navy destroyed a yacht that was carrying 7.5 kilograms of heroin worth Sh29 Million.
