No Entry Exams For Standard One Pupils, Kaimenyi

Students in primary and secondary schools in Kenya are supposed to be in class from 8 am to 3:30 pm, Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has said.

The CS condemned schools that require students to go to school very early in the morning, saying some have gone as far as setting the reporting time at 5 am.

He labeled the practice unethical, saying it put students' lives in danger.

Kaimenyi also said that there will be no entry exam or admission fee required for standard one students.

He said that his directive was in accordance to Basic Education Regulations, 2015 which he gazetted on 8th April.

Kaimenyi further reiterated that it is illegal for schools to force students to repeat a class, unless through doctor's recommendation or as a result of continuous absenteeism for an academic year.
