ODM MP Hires Motorbikes in Search for Voters

Ugenya Member of Parliament (MP) David Ochieng has taken the search for more voters a notch higher, after he hired vehicles and motorbikes to pick his constituents from their homes and ferry them to registration centres.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the MP revealed that he had indeed sought the services of 16 bodabodas and two vehicles that were traversing the constituency ensuring unregistered voters were included in voters' list.

“We are majorly targeting the elderly people and those who might find the journey to the polling stations a bit hectic,” the MP explained.

The legislator expressed confidence in his constituency's registration progress adding that Ugenya would achieve its target.

“We have a target to register 17,000 new voters by the end of this exercise so that we can attain 60,000 plus in the constituency,” Ochieng' asserted.

Politicians from both the Opposition and ruling coalition, have been on spirited campaigns to ensure they attain record number of voters ahead of the 2017 General Election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) kicked-off a nation-wide voter registration exercise on Monday last week targeting 4 Million new voters within 30 days.

Despite the huge expectations from political players in different parts of the country, the turnout has been very poor but IEBC remains upbeat that the number of registered voters will increase.
