Police Dismiss Garden City Explosive as 'Amateur and Harmless'

Police have rubbished the improvised explosive device nabbed at the Garden City mall Tuesday evening, as an amateur collection of phone wires tapped together to look like a bomb.

Contrary to the police statement, a press release by the mall stated that the Government Ordinance Department successfully neautralised the device.

This happened after three suspects were arrested as they attempted to sneak the IED into the mall. The incident prompted the mall's management to call in government bomb experts to assess the device.

Panic gripped shoppers as security agents at the mall conducted evacuation of the building gathering shoppers at the parking area.

However, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett, confirmed to Kenyans that the device was just meant to cause panic but the motive of the men is yet to be determined.

Boinett also acknowledged the quick response from the security personnel stating that normalcy resumed almost immediately, thanks to their agility.

The Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) took the three suspects for further questioning to determine what their plan was.
