Police Rescue Female Judge Held Hostage

Police officers in Kirinyaga County were on Wednesday hailed after rescuing a female judge who had been attacked and held hostage by armed thugs at her home.

The robbers raided the home of Kerugoya Senior Principal Magistrate Juliet Kassim Wednesday morning while she was leaving for work and attempted to kidnap her.

Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga County Police Commander David Bunei said that the armed robbers attacked Ms Kassim outside her home, before tying her with ropes and ransacking the house.

“Immediately she opened the door, one of the assailants forced himself inside the house and threatened to kill her if she dared raise alarm. He tied her hands with a rope and forced her to lie down as he ransacked the house,” he said.

According to Bunei, the assailants ordered for the victim's ATM cards and pin numbers then bundled the judge into her vehicle.

The shaken magistrate, who couples up as Kerugoya Deputy High Court Registrar, managed to raise alarm grabbing the attention of Administration Police officers manning a Teachers' Sacco near the area, who moved in and rescued her.

“The magistrate was not injured but she was badly shaken by the ordeal,” stated Mr Bunei.

The incident reportedly disrupted business at the County's High Court, with Ms Kassim's colleagues rushing to the scene to thank the officers for the good job.
