Police Restrict Road Section to Enhance Security

The police have put up barriers, blocking a section of road on Harambee Avenue, Nairobi for security purposes.

The barriers, placed at  Harambee Avenue – Tumbo Avenue junction, effectively put the section of Harambee Avenue between Uhuru Highway and Vigilance House on restriction to the public.

The move is aimed at regulating the flow of traffic to areas around parliament buildings and the office of the president.

A report on The Nation quotes Nairobi Traffic commandant Edward Mwamburi who confirmed the operation "We are regulating the flow of traffic in the city especially around the parliament for security reasons,”

This comes in the wake of increased terror attacks and threats in Kenya, more especially from Al Shabaab.

The move also comes as the Anti Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) is carrying out investigations into a parliamentary staffer, accused of using his job at the Senate as a front to scout ground on behalf of Al Shabaab for a possible attack.
