Ruto Laughs at These CORD Leaders

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday poked fun at some of the politicians selected by CORD to spearhead crucial talks on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stalemate.

Speaking at the Annual National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park, Ruto alluded that two lawmakers in CORD's five-member team could not be helpful in the negotiations.

The Deputy President ridiculed the Opposition's choice of Senator Johnson Muthama and nominated Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko.

“We were discussing with some MPs yesterday (Thursday) over the choice of Senator Muthama (Machakos) and Mishi Mboko (Mombasa County MP) to engage us in dialogue and some Jubilee leaders told me we should consider choosing Moses Kuria (Gatundu South MP) and Baba Yao (Kabete MP Ferdinard Waititu) as well,” Deputy President.

Ruto cast doubt on the result of the dialogue if the four were to meet at a round table.

"That will be how not to get it done, completely," he said amidst laughter in the congregation.

He, however, urged the Opposition to do things the right way adding that God was with Kenya and come 2017 the elections would be free and fair.

CORD leader Raila Odinga announced members of his team on Thursday in Kisumu while attending a requiem mass of 2 people shot during the anti-IEBC protests two weeks ago.

The other three in CORD's team include Senator James Orengo and MPs Eseli Simiyu and Junet Mohammed.

The Opposition leader gave President Uhuru Kenyatta until Sunday to name his five representatives, failure to which he would lead his brigade to the streets on Monday.

On the other hand, State House has maintained that no agreement was reached between the Opposition and Kenyatta adding that such talks would only take place within the confines of the law.
