Ruto Rejects his 'Brother' Mentioned in NYS Scandal

Deputy President William Ruto has outrightly denied his alleged brother mentioned in affidavit by former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru concerning the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal .

On Thursday, Ruto stated that reports claiming Luke Kimutai Samoei was his younger brother were false, adding that they had no proper research.

“Note that the Deputy President has no brother by the name Luke Samoei Kimutai as alleged in Memos or affidavits and reported in some section of the media,” the DP said in a statement.

Kimutai's name came up in a letter appended in Ms Waiguru's affidavit filed at the High Court on Tuesday.

The missive, which was from Deputy NYS Director Adan Harakhe to Waiguru, stated that Kimutai accompanied Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen to the NYS Headquarters along Thika Road.

“That the said memo stated that on 9th July 2015, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen visited Mr. Harakhe's office accompanied by a Mr Kimutai at the NYS Headquarters along Thika Road,” the affidavit read in part.

Murkomen was reportedly demanding the investigations that had been launched against his clients, who are facing prosecution in the scandal, be dropped.

According to Harakhe, the alleged brother to the DP also asked for business for his company Equity Tech Ltd, asking Mr Harakhe to be 'biased in giving good work'.

The infamous scam at the NYS took a new twist this week after Ms Waiguru turned gun on high profile Jubilee leaders in her damning affidavit.

Majority Leader Aden Duale, Senator Murkomen and Deputy President's personal assistant Faouk Kibet, were mentioned as persons involved in the scam where millions were looted. Murkomen and Duale have since distanced themselves from the allegations of having played roles in the grand theft at the youth department.

Treasury CS Henry Rotich's name also appeared in the Waiguru affidavit that claimed fraudulent payments were made to companies associated with Rotich.

The court documents further read that Rotich introduced Harakhe to Ben Gethi, a businessman facing prosecution in the Sh791 Million saga.
