Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto on Wednesday snubbed a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County, which brought together the Council of Governors and the National Government.
The Bomet County boss spent the day campaigning for Andrew Martim who is running for the Nyongores Member of County Assembly position ahead of Friday 12th by-election.
Governor Ruto was among 15 other Governors who skipped the fifth National and County Government Co-ordinating summit which kicked off yesterday.
According to State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu, majority of the absentee County bosses had sent apologies for their absence.
However, reports indicate that Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Bomet counterpart had vowed not to show up at the event.
Among those who were absent include: Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Nderitu Gachangua (Nyeri), Joseph Nanok (Turkana ), John Nyagarama (Nyamira), and Amason Kingi (Kilifi).
Others are Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Joseph Ndathi (Kirinyaga), Okoth Obado (Migori), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), Godana Doyo (Isiolo), Julius Malombe (Kitui) and Tharaka Nithi Governor Samuel Mbae.
The summit, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, continues on Thursday with a focus to review the achievements made under the devolved system of government.
The conference will discuss several reports on public finance management including laws on double taxation, the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) as well as funds flow and oversight for conditional grants.
