Stephen Sang Defeats Former Ministers Henry Kosgey and Felix Koskei to Win Nandi Governor Nominations

Nandi Senator Stephen Sang surprised many in the party primaries after he trounced incumbent Governor Cleophas Lagat and former Cabinet Minister Henry Kosgey and ex-Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei to win the Jubilee gubernatorial ticket for the County.

Mr Sang is now set to go down in history books as the youngest governor in Kenya at the age of 32 due to the fact that his county is a Jubilee stronghold, which almost assures him of victory in the August General Election.

Some political analysts had cited that his age would be his biggest undoing in the gubernatorial race, stating that the Nandi people would not entrust their county to such a young man. However, in a surprising twist, Sang defied all the odds with the Nandi residents voting for him overwhelmingly to clinch the seat.

In the Senate, the young senator was recognised for his active role in the House where has sponsored a number of Bills and actively participated in debates. This could have made him attractive to most voters in the county who were yearning for change.

Sang is the vice-chairman of the Senate Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee which is chaired by former Attorney General and Busia Senator Amos Wako.

A lawyer by profession, Sang joined politics in 2013 after he was elected the Senator of Nandi County on a United Republican Party (URP) ticket.

Previously, Mr Sang had served at the United States Agency for International Development as a program Specialist from April 2011 - January 2013, a position he held before joining politics.

He was also the Executive Director of the Rift Valley Development Trust and also served as the Program officer at the Emo Community Development.
