Temporary Win For Moi University Law School

Moi University was on Thursday allowed to continue teaching law at their Annex Campus in Eldoret. High Court Judge George Odunga, granted the institution temporary orders which allowed the institution to proceed with their law programme.

The University appealed an order by the Commission for Legal Education (CLE), to close its School of Law for not meeting the required standards to offer legal education.

Justice Odunga ruled that the University could continue offering law courses to the current batch of students till the date of the hearing. The case between the two parties will be heard on October 30.

Law students from the Annex Campus believed that CLE's decision was a form of defamation and asked the board to apologize to the University.

CLE said that the University had inadequate infrastructure and resources hence the failure to be accredited.

Catholic University of East Africa, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and two campuses of the University of Nairobi (UoN) are the other campuses stopped from offering law programmes.
