Top Government Officers Cleared of Corruption Claims

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recommended the closure of files linking three Cabinet Secretaries and other Government officers to graft claims.

EACC has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to close graft files for Cabinet Secretaries Felix Kosgei, Davis Chirchir and Eng. Michael Kamau for lack of evidence.

The anti-graft body has also recommended the closure of files leveling corruption allegations on Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and Narok Governor Samwel Ole Tunai.

According to the office of the DPP excluding the said 5 files, it has so far received 28 files with action having been taken on all the files.

In a report signed by the DPP out of the 28 received files, EACC has recommended prosecution on 17 files which the DPP has accepted and 6 have been closed following recommendations by the anti-graft body.

The office of the DPP has declined to take action on 2 files despite recommendation by EACC, while administrative action and further investigation is being taken on 3 other files.

Senator Sonko and Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir had been accused of graft in the awarding of a tender at Kenya Pipeline Company.

Ole Tunai was facing accusations of irregularities in human resource management and tender awarding in the Narok County Government.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Kosgei has been cleared of irregular sugar imports licensing.

Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet secretary Michael Kamau was being accused of irregular contract award to Landmark Clearing and Forwarding Company.

The DPP is said to have agreed with the anti-graft body that the files against CS Chirchir and CS Kosgei should be closed.
