Two men were on Thursday sentenced to 20 years in jail a by Kapenguria court in Chepkorniswo, West Pokot County for gang raping a woman.
Joseph Rianagura and Jackson Chelinganyang were accused of allegedly attacked the woman and her husband on April 5, 2015 at 8pm as they returned home from the market.
The claimant stated that they raped her in turns before stabbing her private parts.
“Each of you will spend 20 years in prison without any option of a fine as the court has found you guilty. You have 14 days to appeal,” ruled Resident Magistrate Martin Wachira.
Prosecutor Humphrey Okumu expressed that the two should receive a harsher punishment since the offense was serious.
He said that the rape cases were out of control and the way to deal with the situation was to make the sentences severe.
