Two Senior Police Officers To Appear In Court For Reinstating Colleague Charged with Defilement

Two senior police officers in Nakuru have been served with an order to appear in court to explain why a police officer was reinstated back to work, despite being charged with defilement.

According to the order, Nakuru regional AP commandant, Francis Kirathe, and DCIO, James Leila are expected in court on May 27 this year.

The two are accused of allowing Senior Sergeant Phillip Maritim who is accused of defiling a minor at Kivumbini AP Line in Nakuru on the 28thof November, 2013 back to his post despite the charges.

According to Citizen Tv, he also faces an additional charge of conducting an indecent act with a minor.

The officer was released from police custody on a Sh50,000 bond with a surety of similar amount after he denied the charges.

Maritim is said to have forged a letter from the courts claiming to have been cleared of all charges.

Police have launched a manhunt for him after he went into hiding.
