Uhuru And Governor Kingi 'Fight' Over Bills

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday differed in public over a street lighting programme that the President was to launch in the county.

Speaking during a church service at Barani Secondary School in Malindi, Kingi told Uhuru to pay bills for the programme he was about to launch, since the County Government had not budgeted for the same.

The County boss went ahead to dare Uhuru to either get his own money and pay for the bills or else the project would collapse.

“Where you took the money for the lighting projects from, go and take more to pay electricity bills from now to June,” he told Uhuru.

However, Uhuru hit back questioning how a county would fail to foot electricity bills for a project meant to help its own citizens.

“Hii pesa mahali unasema nilitoa ni ya hawa wananchi. Kwa hivyo mimi siwezi kukulipia bill ndugu yangu. Hiyo lazima ujipange (This money was obtained from public funds so I cannot pay for your bills my brother. You should sort yourself out),” he told Kingi.

The President has pitched tent in the Coastal region launching various development projects. However, his stay has been capped by a few ugly incidents of leaders differing in public.

Over the weekend, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko almost exchanged blows. Joho was seen grabbing Sonko's arm before leaders present stepped in to quell a feud that has been building up between the two.
