A civil society group on Wednesday made good their threats to use rats in a demonstration against the Nyeri Members of County Assembly.
Angry residents accompanied by the activists took to the streets in the protest dubbed Operation Ondoa Panya carrying the rodents which represented each MCA.
They waved placards inscribed M-rats during their march towards the County Assembly Offices where they handed the rats to the Sergeant at arms.
Coordinator of Operation Ondoa Panya, John Wamagata, said that the Nyeri locals asked them to assist in the demonstration against a proposal by area MCAs to construct a Sh30 Million recreational facility.
Mr Wamagata indicated that the use of rats was a representation of 'how the MCAs had infested the County and eating it away slowly'.
“Like rats, these MCAs are stealing our money in the name of allowances, gyms and other irrelevant things,” he added.
Deputy Speaker Joel Gichuru condemned the demonstrators stating that it was ill-advised for them to bring rats into the County Assembly.
“And why they would come all the way from Nairobi to bring rats in the county assembly of Nyeri, we for sure know they are misguided [sic],” Mr Gichuru stated.
The protesters are demanding a financial probe to be carried out on the Assembly.
