VIDEO: Governor Wa Iria Harassed At EACC Offices

Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria on Monday cited harassment at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) offices in Nairobi, where he had been detained.

The governor, who had camped outside the offices waiting for his lawyers following his earlier arrest, was pushed and forced to enter the Integrity Centre by detectives.

While being shoved into the building under tight security, Wa Iria was heard pleading with the officers to stop harassing him.

According to the County boss, he was detained for close to eight hours without being interrogated and all he did was to sign a charge sheet during the entire period.

“From 2-8 PM I have been doing nothing. There was no interrogation or discussion. I was brought here under serious police escort to only sign a charge sheet,” he complained.

Mwangi divulged that he was denied bail by the arresting officers who claimed to have been under instructions from a higher authority, and had to consult before deciding on their next move.

Governor Wa Iria was nabbed while leaving the Agha Khan Hospital, a move he claimed was instigated by his political competitors with the intention of waning his popularity, by blocking him from attending national events.

He was later released on a Sh100,000 cash bail and is set to appear in court on Tuesday to answer to charges of obstruction of justice.
