VIDEO: MPs Stoned Outside County Offices

Two Members of Parliament (MP) from Kiambu County have accused a powerful politician of being behind an incident where they were stoned by rowdy youth as they celebrated the release of a blogger.

Kikuyu MP Kamau Ichung'wa and Kiambu Town legislator Jude Njomo alleged that they were attacked by hired goons as they passed in their convoy outside the County's headquarters.

Speaking to their supporters, Kimani blamed the incident on Governor William Kabogo, assuring him that no amount of intimidation would make them relent in their efforts to kick him out of office.

“Nataka niambie Kabogo leo. Ache kupiga gari mawe, acha risasi..(Today I want to tell Kabogo. Stop hitting cars with stones and stop using bullets). Nothing will stop the people of Kiambu from kicking you out of office,” he said.

The drama was witnessed as the legislators were driving to Ndumberi town to celebrate after blogger Anthony Waime was freed, having been arrested for a Facebook post linking Kabogo to the import of substandard eggs.

On Monday, a similar incident was witnessed outside Mombasa law courts when Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu threw kicks at a young man who tried blocking him while addressing the press.

Waititu who was accompanied by other Kiambu MPs and Members of County Assembly had travelled to Mombasa to support the blogger in court.

The arrest of Waime, who was detained at Shimo la Tewa Prison, elicited a heated debate on social media with many blaming the government for intimidation.

The matter caught the eye of Director of Digital Communications in the Office of the President, Dennis Itumbi, who resorted to addressing the issue on arrests of bloggers.
